Holme Hall, the local Sue Ryder Care centre, is more than £4,500 better off, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a team of foot-sore lawyers from Hull-based Williamsons Solicitors.
The care centre at Holme on Spalding Moor, East Yorkshire, provides compassionate long-term residential and respite care for up to 36 adults with challenging conditions including multiple sclerosis, strokes, brain injuries, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
The team of 26 solicitors, staff, friends and family from the firm did a 12- or 30-mile walk on July 3 through the beautiful, but physically demanding, countryside to raise a total of £4,521.51.
Jane Longhorn, a senior lawyer at Williamsons Solicitors, said: “We chose Sue Ryder Care because it is a national charity that operates locally, and this represented a good challenge for a worthwhile cause.
“After visiting Holme Hall and seeing how much goes into providing the care for the residents, we were pleased to be able to help.
“The walk was hard work but it was a really great day and although many people were pleasantly surprised with their levels of fitness, others were a little shocked! There were no ‘casualties’ and we expect there to be an even bigger turnout next year.”
Lucy Nalton, fundraiser for Sue Ryder Care, said: “Williamsons Solicitors have been amazing. They have been full of enthusiasm and put in so much effort with both the walking and fundraising.
“The fantastic sponsorship money they have raised will make an enormous difference to the lives of those in our care at Holme Hall.”
